Lekki Toll Gate: Why Malami should resign – HURIWA



 The Nigerian  Human  Rights  Writers  Association  HURIWA has commissioned  the Federation's Attorney  General  Abubakar Malami to apologize  and resign  if he has any honor  left HURIWA made  the call  in response  to Malami's comment  that the gunmen  who attacked  the End  SARS  protesters  at the Lekki tollbooth  in Lagos  state  were not soldiers The group  said  the AGF should apologize  or resign  as the Nigerian  military  has confirmed  that soldiers  were deployed  at the Lekki tollbooth HURIWA revealed  this in a statement  signed  by its National  Coordinator  Emmanuel OnwubikoThe statement  reads  in part  It  was with hearts  that were heavy  and tragically  disappointed  at the rate  of spread  of illogic  as a public  communication  technique  that we at the Nigerian  Human  Rights  Writers  Association  HURIWA read  in the media from popular  mass  communication  that the Abubakar Malami Attorney  General  of the Federation  AGF the Federal  Republic  of Nigeria's chief  law  enforcement  officer  and Nigeria's chief  advocate  said  that it is likely  that thugs  dressed  in military  uniform  and not soldiers  will shoot  EndSARS protesters  at the Lekki toll  gate  in Lagos  state In  fact  we saw  this statement  as unwarranted  irritation  and an aggressive  form  of insults  and disrespect  for the innocent  peaceful  protesters  in Lekki Toll  Gate  Lagos  who were sent  on October  20  2020 to the great  world  beyond  by army  men  and officers paid  with taxpayer  money  to defend  the territorial  integrity  of Nigeria Federal  Attorney  General  and Minister  of Justice  Abubakar Malami SAN should present  both his apologies  and his resignation  now that it has become  clearly  unequivocal  that the Nigerian  army  was in fact  deployed  at the lekki Lagos  toll  gate  on October  20  of 2020 because according  to the Rights  group  that attempt  by the Federal  Attorney  General  to use  sophistry  to seek  to create  confusion  around  the circumstances  surrounding  the massacre  that characterized  the deployment  of armed  soldiers  on the ground  of peaceful  protests  in Lekki Toll  Gate  Lagos  in that an undetermined  number  of Nigerians  may  have been killed  in the shooting  that continued  allegedly  unleashed  by soldiers  on peaceful  protesters  in Lekki Toll  Gate  Lagos  Former  union  leader  condemns  the government  for the new  increase  in the price  of fuel  The group  said  the display  of embarrassment  by the Federal  Attorney  General  and Justice  Minister  Abubakar Malami over this Lekki Toll  Gate  Lagos  issue  is intolerable  and unacceptable Despite  Malami's clLaim the 81st Division  of the Nigerian  Army  had admitted  that soldiers  had been deployed  at the Lekki toll  gate Brig  Gen  Ahmed Taiwo Commander  of the 81st Division  Military  Intelligence  Brigade  Victoria  Island  Lagos  State  while appearing  before the Lagos  Judicial  Investigation  and Restitution  Panel  insisted  yesterday  that the soldiers  fired  blank  ammunition  and not real  bullets  at the protesters He  also  insisted  that contrary  to reports  the soldiers  did not kill  any protesters  at the Lekki tollbooth
